Shorefront Jewish Community Council (SJCC) provides support to help meet the human and social services needs of the indigent elderly, vocationally disadvantaged poor, and immigrant populations of Brighton Beach and surrounding communities. Currently, SJCC’s main services consist of case assistance/management, operating a large food pantry, and immigration services, and a large portion of its clients are Russian-speaking older adults, including a large number of Holocaust survivors. SJCC also assists in coordinating development, civic affairs and economic revitalization in the area. SJCC additionally fosters neighborhood stabilization in order to serve the needs of the community at large.
Position Summary:
The Special Projects Coordinator (SPC) will project manage a variety of capacity building activities designed to foster agency growth, increase resources, and improve organizational efficiency. The SPC will work to identify a new expanded and efficient food pantry facility, will oversee an expansion of utilization through community outreach and partnerships designed to close the gap on food insecurity in the neighborhoods served, and will serve as the in-house digital pantry system guru. The SPC will be responsible for all aspects of volunteer coordination including project identification, volunteer recruitment, engagement and retention.

Principal Responsibilities:
Food Pantry Logistics Coordination
- Facilitate food pantry relocation and expansion. Identify program space and logistical needs; identify potential relocation spaces in the neighborhood; oversee space buildout and move.
- Coordinate new partnerships and satellites to serve new food insecure clients, oversee all details necessary for successful implementation, from logistics for packing the custom-ordered food packages to coordination of pick-up or delivery to the “satellite” locations.
- Digital pantry system tech support – serve as SJCCs in house tech support resource; facilitate updates, adjustments, and system maintenance as necessary; provide technical assistance/training to food pantry staff, volunteers and partners.
Volunteer Coordination
- Volunteer recruitment – implement outreach, recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to maintain volunteers.
- Volunteer project development – work with SJCC staff to create volunteer support opportunities throughout the organization.
- Volunteer system management – responsible for maintaining and updating all aspects of “Better Impact,” SJCC’s volunteer management system
Special Projects
- Assist in identifying capacity building opportunities for SJCC.
- Under the direction of the ED coordinate various capacity building initiatives including project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.

- Tech-savvy, very comfortable with new technologies/computerized systems, and able to explain technology to those who are not tech-savvy.

Skill and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior experience with a food pantry, even as a volunteer, a major plus.
- Russian-language fluency, preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot
- Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)
- Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pulling
