Position Summary:
Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Met Council’s ten different departments are staffed by experts who helped over 305,000 clients in 2020 and continuously advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our holistic programs range from 100% affordable housing at 20 locations to our award-winning family violence program to comprehensive Holocaust survivor assistance to senior programming to crisis intervention to the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, 20 affordable housing sites, and 15 JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York.
Role of In-house Therapist in the Human Resources Department is to support Met Council’s diverse employee community by providing counseling and case management services to ensure staff members’ overall wellbeing. This is a highly confidential position. Will require travel throughout New York City, as needed.
Please note: This is currently a hybrid position (partially remote).
Duties and Responsibilities:
As part of the Human Resources Team, the In-house Therapist will be directly supporting Met Council staff members. This highly confidential position’s responsibilities include:
- In collaboration with the organization’s current Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provide support and counseling services to staff members in both individual and group settings with the highest degree of confidentiality
- Help staff members with personal situations that affect their wellbeing such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship or family issues, illness, death in the family, immigration concerns, budgetary support, etc.
- Conduct intake in main office and at satellite locations
- Obtain appropriate documentation
- Refer staff members to other healthcare professionals if necessary
- Perform Case Management services to include assisting staff members with applying for government benefits
- Complete applications for assistance and maintain appropriate documentation in a timely manner
- Maintain ongoing highly confidential contact log notes and related documentation
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to all staff members
- Establish positive, trusting rapport with staff members
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources team
- Additional responsibilities as needed

- Solid computer skills (Outlook suite; Zoom; etc.)
Skill and Education:
- MSW, LMSW or LCSW
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Preference for multi-lingual (Russian, Spanish, Hebrew, Yiddish, Mandarin, Creole, etc.).
Physical Demands:
- Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot.
- Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs).
- Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pulling.
