Who We Are:
Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Our holistic programs range from 100% affordable housing at 20 locations to our award-winning family violence program to comprehensive Holocaust survivor assistance to senior programming to crisis intervention to the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York.
What You'll Do:
- Establish linkages with agencies and service providers in the community.
- Refer and link residents to service providers in the community such as case management, personal assistance, transportation, meals-on-wheels, counseling, primary healthcare, and legal advocacy.
- Provide education to residents on available services, application procedures, and rights.
- Assist the residents in developing support networks.
- Provide and/or coordinate training for residents on obligations of tenancy.
- Coordinate on-site presentations and events to provide education about and linkages to available services in the community.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
What You'll Bring to the Organization:
- Working knowledge of supportive services and other resources for senior citizens in the vicinity of the building(s).
- Ability to advocate, organize, problem solve, and provide results for seniors served.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office sufficient to generate documents, create and use spreadsheets, and manage e-mail and appointments.
- Knowledge of basic office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and make appropriate recommendations within scope of responsibility.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, residents, community service agencies, and the public.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple demands to accomplish tasks in accordance with established requirements.
- Skilled in analyzing situations in order to identify problems and offer possible solutions.
- Skilled in communicating with all types of people in a wide variety of situations.
We'd Like You to Have:
- Bachelor of Social Work, Gerontology, Psychology or Counseling (Preferred)
- 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree is also acceptable
- Minimum of 2 years experience in social service work with senior citizens
- Bilingual English/ Chinese required; Korean, Spanish or Russian (Preferred)
What We Offer:
This is a part-time (20 h/week) overtime-eligible position with competitive salary and generous benefits package which includes pre-tax commuter benefits, 403(b), plus pro-rated vacation, sick leave and holidays. This is not a remote position.
