Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Our network of 101 food pantries, 20 affordable housing sites, and 15 JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York .
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented professional to take on the role of Part-time Grant Accountant (20-25 hours/week). The ideal candidate focuses on details, thrives on collaboration, and welcomes innovation. This individual will manage an assigned portfolio of at least 60 grants and contracts annually.
Principal Responsibilities:
Grant Accounting/Billing: 80% - 90%
- Prepare financial reports and invoices for all grants to ensure timely and accurate submission to government funders and private foundations.
- Ensure financial compliance with government and private foundation funding requirements.
- Prepare journal entries and allocations as needed.
- Respond to funder-related inquiries from key stakeholders at Met Council and various agencies.
- Assists in the preparation of funder desk audits.
- Maintain accurate and updated financial records and files.
Special Projects: 10% - 20%
- Assist the Assistant Director of Billing and Grants Management in the preparation of special financial reports and projections as needed.
- Maintain database of administrative contracts. This includes running queries, reports, and inputting data.

Skill and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business is required.
- 2-5 years of grant accounting experience required; familiarity with Private Foundations, New York City and New York State funder requirements (DFTA, DYCD, OTDA, etc) required.
- Familiarity with PASSPort, HHS Accelerator, Grants Gateway preferred.
- Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, IF functions) required.
- Must possess critical thinking skills; must be able to understand the impact of budgets and contracts throughout the agency.
- English language proficiency required.
