Position Summary:
The Geriatric Social Worker will be an integral member of the agency’s Elder Abuse Prevention Program (EAPP), funded by the NYC Department for the Aging. EAPP provides services to survivors of elder abuse and financial exploitation in Southern Brooklyn communities. The social worker will be responsible for providing assistance to a caseload of victimized seniors, primarily implementing interventions to enhance the safety and stability of clients. This may include petitioning Family Court to secure Orders of Protection, advocacy with courts/judges, NYPD, Adult Protective Services, the District Attorney’s office, etc., referrals to legal services, victim’s services, mental health treatment, financial assistance, etc. The social worker will provide trauma-informed, short term supportive counseling, assistance with safety planning and securing safety modifications and devices, as well as outreach to community-based organizations/senior centers to provide presentations on prevention of elder abuse. This role will be partially based in our South Brooklyn field office and partially at our Manhattan office with an option to work from home on Fridays.
