Program & Outreach Coordinator, Spanish Speaking (Temporary)

Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary:

With a special focus on New York City’s vulnerable communities, the Program & Outreach Coordinator will conduct outreach for the NYC Care Program at community health fairs, food pantries, consulates, street fairs, elected officials’ offices, faith and community-based organizations, local businesses (e.g., supermarkets), public schools, green markets, neighborhood canvasing, etc.

Through an intensive outreach approach, the Program & Outreach Coordinator will work towards helping New Yorkers gain access to health care through the NYC Care Program by providing individuals with education, eligibility assessment, and facilitated enrollment services.

The Program & Outreach Coordinator will also work towards connecting families and individuals with other applicable low-income programs and benefits, including but not limited to, SNAP, Fair Fares, Women Infant Children (WIC), Free Tax Preparation services, etc.

Please Note: These activities will primarily be conducted in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, and Sunset Park neighborhoods; however, the work is not limited to those areas. The ideal candidate must be willing/able to participate in outreach events across the five boroughs.

This is a temporary position anticipated to end October 30th, 2025.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Program & Outreach Coordinator will work with a team to coordinate and execute outreach events and activities in the community or at Met Council’s headquarters and partner agencies. Through an intensive outreach campaign targeting vulnerable communities, such as immigrants and the working poor, the Program & Outreach Coordinator will primarily work with the department’s Benefits Specialists and Health Insurance Assistor to provide community members with information about NYC Care services and to facilitate their enrollment process.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Benefits Access Department, the Program & Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Performing outreach activities in areas with high rates of uninsured New Yorkers.
  • Working towards connecting individuals that do not qualify for health insurance or cannot afford it, to NYC Care.
  • Participating in outreach activities, such as tabling, presenting in-person or online, phone banking, and other forums as needed. Occasionally, this will involve non-traditional work hours.
  • Educating, guiding, and counseling the community about the NYC Care Program’s eligibility criteria, enrollment requirements and processes –in person at assigned events/sites or by phone/email (when required).
  • Pre-screening clients to identify their potential eligibility in person or by phone.
  • Helping potentially eligible individuals gain access to the NYC Care Program by providing application guidance and assistance, which includes getting them connected with NYC Health + Hospitals’ Financial Counselors and/or Met Council’s Health Insurance Assistor.
  • Attending and keeping track of all outreach activities and individuals assisted.
  • Coordinating all the necessary outreach materials for scheduled events.
  • Attending bi-weekly meetings with NYC Care personnel.
  • Documenting all services rendered in the corresponding tool (e.g., Salesforce, Google documents, online excel sheets, etc.)
  • Working in tandem with staff at NYC’s community-based organizations, partner agencies, and other Met Council departments.
  • Reporting progress of targets.
  • Additional responsibilities as required

  • Ability to help clients navigate through barriers while adhering to local, state, and federal guidelines.

  • Willingness to occasionally work non-traditional hours (as needed).

Skills and Education Required:

  • High School Diploma (required); bachelor’s degree (preferred).
  • Prior experience working with vulnerable communities (preferred).
  • Prior experience conducting outreach.
  • Benefits screening experience (preferred).
  • Strong public speaking skills, including presenting in various settings.
  • Excellent computer literacy with an ability to use online technologies and database systems daily.
  • Background in public health, public administration, or human services.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of government benefits is a plus.

Special Requirements:

  • This is not a remote position.
  • The primary location for this position will be in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and Sunset Park neighborhoods); however, this position requires a willingness to travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Compensation: $45,000 - $50,000 per year.
