Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.
Position Summary:
The Manager of Recruitment and Onboarding leads the hiring and onboarding process across the organization. This role works closely with senior and supervisory staff to understand hiring needs, support recruitment efforts, and ensure a smooth and consistent onboarding experience.
As part of the HR team, the Manager partners closely across HR and supports broader team initiatives as needed. The role also manages relationships with external partners and talent sources to support hiring needs and fill open positions. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in recruitment, with experience or exposure across other areas of HR.
Please note: This is a hybrid position (three days on-site, two days remote), with Tuesdays and Thursdays as mandatory in-office days at Met Council’s main office in the Financial District.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage recruitment and onboarding processes including a comprehensive orientation system at Met Council.
- Partner with hiring managers to determine staffing needs and optimize recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates.
- Draft, review and edit job descriptions to ensure they accurately reflect role responsibilities and align with organizational standards.
- Manage job postings across platforms and source candidates using innovative strategies.
- Participate in the interview and selection process to identify the best candidates for various positions.
- Manage Met Council’s relationship with HireNYC, including open role submissions and monthly hire reporting to ensure compliance.
- Serve as Met Council’s public-facing representative for recruitment, both internally and externally.
- Attend career fairs and external recruitment events, as needed.
- Support the interview process, including coordinating interviews and conducting reference checks, as needed.
- Conduct strategic workforce planning with senior and supervisory staff on hiring needs.
- Build and maintain relationships with external talent pipelines, including schools, community partners, and recruitment agencies.
- Liaise with staffing and recruitment agencies to support hiring needs and manage related invoices, including routing for approval and submission to AP.
- Support cross-departmental staffing and operational needs on a weekly basis, including coordinating temporary staffing, managing scheduling, and troubleshooting coverage issues.
- Establish and continuously improve interview processes, pre-employment procedures, and onboarding experience.
- Supervise and support the Senior HR Generalist.
- Maintain a strong understanding of all Met Council programs to effectively support hiring and onboarding efforts.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director of Human Resources on staff retention initiatives, policies, and tools.
- Develop content for and co-manage MetNet, the organization’s intranet platform.
- Design and oversee Met Council’s internship program, ensuring a structured and enriching experience for interns.
- Oversee employee status changes, transitions, and offboarding processes.
- Additional responsibilities as required.

Skill and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant HR experience (required).
- 2+ years of experience in recruitment, onboarding, and/or broader HR functions, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- Supervisory experience (preferred).
- Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems, such as Clear Company (required).
- Familiarity with HRIS or payroll systems, such as ADP Workforce Now (preferred).
- Experience using sourcing tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter or similar platforms (preferred).
Special Requirements:
- Travel throughout the five boroughs using public transportation.
- Untraditional work hours as needed.
Compensation: $73,000 - $85,000 per year
